Ways to Save Money on Your Power Bill
Posted on 20 October 2015
A high power bill is a stressful expense for a family. There are many factors to take into consideration when trying to lower your bill. These factors include the climate you live in, the size of your home or even the design of your home. Regardless of some of these factors, there are many other adjustments you can make around your home. By adjusting some simple things, you can learn to save on your power bill.
- Choosing energy-efficient appliances is the first way you can begin to lower your power bill. If you have a second fridge, consider turning it off or getting rid of it altogether. Keeping your fridge in a cool place away from the sunlight will also lower the amount of energy the appliance is using.
- Make sure dishwashers and washing machines only run when full. Try to use cold water as much as possible when washing clothes. If possible, use a clothesline often for drying clothes to save on energy. Also, dripping wet clothes will take a considerable amount of energy to dry in a dryer, so make sure the clothes have been wrung out well.
- Turning off electronics at the wall can save you a great deal of money. If a light is blinking on your electronics, it is still using power even if it is in standby mode. Turning it off at the wall is a simple solution for saving money. It may also be a good idea to consider using smart power boards for technology.
- Using a water-efficient showerhead and shortening the length of your showers will also help. You may want to consider replacing your electric storage hot water system with a solar or heat pump water heater.
- Another simple way to save on your power bill is to buy energy-saving globes. Always check to make sure you aren’t leaving lights on in a room you are not using. If you don’t need the main light in a room, consider using a lamp or spotlight instead.
